FAQ’s
What makes Open Systems Healthcare different from other agencies?

At Open Systems Healthcare, our goal is to not just be another agency, but to act as a real partner for you and your care. We establish this close relationship by having a strong team that is:

  • Committed to Your Care Experience: Every OSH employee, from our caregivers to the teams in our branches, shares the goal of empowering you to live life on your own terms.
  • Rigorous Caregiver Screening: Our caregivers undergo challenging interviews and background checks to ensure you’re receiving care from the absolute best in the field.
  • Prioritizing Compliance: We adhere to the highest standards of healthcare compliance and we conduct our own rigid internal audits regularly. Your safety and privacy are of the utmost importance to us.
  • Professional and Personal: At OSH, our offices aren’t franchises and you’ll never speak to a call center. You’ll always speak to someone who understands your case and is available to you 24/7.
Why choose Open Systems Healthcare?

No one is more dedicated to helping you live life on your own terms than OSH. Our private caregiver team follows the directive of “Do things the right way.” That means you’ll always talk to a person who understands you and your unique case when you call our office. Our caregivers are the most skilled, compassionate professionals available to help you. Every decision we make is based on your input and preferences — we are here for you, and your involvement every step of the way is critical.

At Open Systems Behavioral Health, do you service consumers who may not have behaviors?

We service all Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) Waivers, including the Adult Autism Waiver. We have an Autism Services Coordinator that specializes in services for autistic participants. We handle consumers of all types by providing quality services that meet their needs to the best of our ability.

How soon can we receive care from Open Systems Healthcare?

At OSH, we strive to do things differently than the competition. One key area where we truly stand out is in delivery of care. Your home care services needs are essential, so our internal processes help you find the right primary caregiver for you, faster. Our admission process can take as little as 24 hours from the time of initial contact.

How active will we be in selecting our DSP?

At OSH, we believe your input and decisions are essential parts of owning your care here. We’ll provide you with a range of caregivers to choose from, and you can be as active as you would like in selecting your private caregiver. Our team can also make recommendations based on your preferences and care requirements. OSH’s challenging interviews and background checks ensure the screening process is thorough. We also verify all credentials and stay up-to-date on documentation to take away any stress and responsibilities you might incur if you hired a care provider directly.

What training do Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) receive at OSH?

Our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who service consumers receive a clinical orientation upon hire, ongoing training to advance their skills, and training on the specific care plan of each consumer.

Why does OSBH have a timesheet for each day, and not just one paper for the entire week?

Our “timesheets,” while serving as the way our caregivers are paid, are also the consumer’s Progress Note and are vital to consumer care and monitoring. We review all Progress Notes on a quarterly basis, at which point we send a quarterly report to the consumer’s Support Coordinator and identify and address any issues with care. We also offer suggestions for goal revision based off of notes made by the caregiver.

I love my child's caregiver, but they are only able to spend X hours together. Why can't my caregiver get more hours?

All hours increases must be addressed with your family or friend’s Support Coordinator. Hours for each consumer must remain the same on a weekly basis, but within each week, schedules can be modified to accommodate changing schedules, unforeseen events, etc. We ask that you always communicate any schedule changes to the office.

What happens if our regular caregiver is not available?

Sometimes the cold and flu season strikes, or vacation time rolls around. Rest assured that we will send a replacement DSP for those days — one who has the same skills and qualifications, and who also shares a private caregiver style you’re used to in your home.

My child's services are based in the community. How will OSBH ensure that cost is not a factor in carrying out these services?

We pay our caregivers very competitively relative to the industry, in addition to offering overtime pay, holiday pay, and travel time pay between shifts. Caregivers that drive can be reimbursed for mileage once they register their car with us. Caregivers using public transit with their consumers can complete transit reimbursement logs. Both of these logs are verified and signed by the family. In regards to community outings, our Recruiters are always happy to assist caregivers in finding free and low-cost events for themselves and their consumers. In fact, many companies offer discounts for consumers and their aides! OSBH also recommends that consumers ask their Support Coordinators about Access cards and CCT passes.

How do I know which private caregiver waiver, if any, I qualify for?

We are experts at understanding Medicaid, Medicare and various health insurance plans — if you have a question about which private caregiver waivers you are qualified to receive, call us directly at 1-855-616-2662. We’ll walk you through the process.

How do we pay for our DSP?

OSH handles all the payroll and tax requirements for all DSPs.
